Lesli "Mushroom" Horowitz

Hello

Wearing our earthwatch t-shirts, we met up at the airport in Puerto Jimenez, looking tired from travel, a little confused, but mostly excited for our adventure. As teachers do, we all immediately started talking about where we are from, what grades and subjects we teach, as well as some of our past travel adventures. It was clear to me that we had a group of like-minded educators who are looking forward to taking on the role of the student for a change and learning as much as possible to bring back to our students. We were picked up by David, one of the researchers, and brought to our home for the next 9 days, the El Chontal Ecolodge. After quickly settling into our cabins, we had an introduction with the primary investigator, Dr. Lenin E. Oviedo Correa, to discuss the uniqueness of our location with respect to the local marine life and biodiversity. Surrounded by the sights and sounds of Gulfo Dulce, we then had a lovely dinner and finally, in total exhaustion, we settled down for the night, and excited for the next day.
